I am proud to be a member of the Local Governing Body for Doubletrees School.
I trained to teach children with special needs at King Alfred’s College, Winchester and began my teaching career in 1981. I have always taught in special schools; I have taught all age ranges, all aspects of the curriculum, been involved in many educational initiatives and fund-raising groups. I retired in July 2018 after working at Pencalenick School for 24 years where it was my privilege to serve as the interim Head of School for my final two years. I have always worked in special education and I care passionately about specialist provision. It is a very real honour to be continuing the next phase of my life by working with the dedicated team of staff, parents and governors at Doubletrees to ensure that the young people have a top quality provision that will enhance their opportunities.
I have been teaching in Cornish schools for 19 years, with 10 years as a headteacher alongside 8 years of executive leadership experience. My own experience as a teacher and, later, headteacher has given me a firm understanding of school pressures, enabling me to secure continually improving outcomes for children. I firmly believe I can support schools to deliver their vision in practice; by sharing effective practice and understanding each school’s diverse community. Furthermore, I operate as a transparent, collaborative team leader who inspires confidence among my colleagues—which has led to high retention amongst the staff I manage.
I passionately believe that headteachers and staff should be empowered to focus on their central purpose—achieving outstanding outcomes and providing broad curriculum opportunities for each and every child. This is enhanced through coaching, clearly communicated accountabilities and the development of robust support mechanisms and processes.
Doubletrees has been associated with my family for 40 years and to make a difference I believe understanding and empowering people is key!
I have 27 years experience within Social Care and Local Business. My skills range from Emotional Intelligence, Life Transitions, Quality Assurance, Business Administration, Education Advisor, Funding, Teaching and winning Awards.
In 2009 I was recognised as a South West Award Winner for Excellence and Leadership in Business and Training for creating an NVQ Assessment Centre.
I am the parent of two children, my eldest child is nearly 15 and attends a main stream school in Newquay. My youngest child is 12 and currently attends Doubletrees.
I currently work for my husband’s car business providing financial and administrative support.
My youngest child has attended Doubletrees since he was 3 years old. As parents we put a lot of trust in the school staff to ensure that our child’s needs are met and that ultimately they are kept safe. I am hoping that I will be able to bring the parents’ experiences and perspectives to discussions on policies and strategies that ultimately affect our children.
i am originally from Redruth but now live in Roche with my family. I am a mother of three, the eldest & youngest son's attend mainstream school's locally where i am also a governor and my daughter attends Doubletrees.
One of my passions is to ensure specialist provision is the best it can be, i feel privileged to be part of the team of governors at Doubletrees.
I was in the Army but the majority of my civilian employment has been working in mental health secure units and supported living.
My Interests include keeping and competing horses, riding motorbikes and taking part in charity events.
I was elected to be a Parent Governor at Doubletrees School in the summer term of 2019. I live in Bodmin with my Husband and two children, one is 15 and attends a mainstream secondary school, the other is 9 and has attended Doubletrees School since age 7; but has been in a specialist setting since age 3.
I’m currently a stay at home parent but have past experience and qualifications in Administration, and Administration in a legal context. I’m highly organised and focussed on getting things right for our children.
I’m passionate about all of our children getting the most out of their time in school. I’m able to challenge decisions professionally around strategies and policies within the school to ensure the best outcomes for our children.
My current roles and responsibilities include website compliance, ensuring that it remains compliant at all times. Personal development including spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC). School Improvement Plan (SIP), ensuring there is clarity of the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school which supports ongoing development and improvement of the school. I’m also trained in Safeguarding and safer recruitment in education.
