I am proud to be a member of the Local Governing Body for Doubletrees School.
I trained to teach children with special needs at King Alfred’s College, Winchester and began my teaching career in 1981. I have always taught in special schools; I have taught all age ranges, all aspects of the curriculum, been involved in many educational initiatives and fund-raising groups. I retired in July 2018 after working at Pencalenick School for 24 years where it was my privilege to serve as the interim Head of School for my final two years. I have always worked in special education and I care passionately about specialist provision. It is a very real honour to be continuing the next phase of my life by working with the dedicated team of staff, parents and governors at Doubletrees to ensure that the young people have a top quality provision that will enhance their opportunities.
I have been teaching in Cornish schools for 19 years, with 10 years as a headteacher alongside 8 years of executive leadership experience. My own experience as a teacher and, later, headteacher has given me a firm understanding of school pressures, enabling me to secure continually improving outcomes for children. I firmly believe I can support schools to deliver their vision in practice; by sharing effective practice and understanding each school’s diverse community. Furthermore, I operate as a transparent, collaborative team leader who inspires confidence among my colleagues—which has led to high retention amongst the staff I manage.
I passionately believe that headteachers and staff should be empowered to focus on their central purpose— achieving outstanding outcomes and providing broad curriculum opportunities for each and every child.
This is enhanced through coaching, clearly communicated accountabilities and the development of robust support mechanisms and processes.

I am the parent of two children, my eldest child is nearly 15 and attends a main stream school in Newquay. My youngest child is 12 and currently attends Doubletrees.
I currently work for my husband’s car business providing financial and administrative support.
My youngest child has attended Doubletrees since he was 3 years old. As parents we put a lot of trust in the school staff to ensure that our child’s needs are met and that ultimately they are kept safe. I am hoping that I will be able to bring the parents’ experiences and perspectives to discussions on policies and strategies that ultimately affect our children.
After having an RAF upbringing in Germany up to the age of 8, my family then relocated back to Cornwall here in the UK permanently where I have remained rooted ever since.
After I left college, and throughout my years, I have experienced various employment (and self-employment) roles:
-Factory work, where I rose up to become a machine supervisor, with those in my charge.
-workshop supplies wholesale, where as a junior partner I assisted my father with our own established family business in that particular field of retail.
-security, which involved various sites where I was in charge of safeguarding the site and employees/visitors/property within.
-various retail positions, ranging from within the supermarket sector, to an electrical appliance retailer, and also becoming a network provider salesperson.
However, for over three and a half years now I have found my current role as a civil service Case Manager truly challenging, which involves communicating with the public, coupled with digital administration, to provide support to those in hardship.
Not wanting to stop there I have now been given this amazing opportunity to be a school governor for Doubletrees. Along with my experience in security, civil service safeguarding, and the training that I have had for safeguarding and safer recruitment in education, I feel that I can contribute to the school greatly, and which also makes me the ideal choice as your recently appointed post-16 governor for discussing options on education, further education, apprenticeships, training and employment.

I was elected to be a Parent Governor at Doubletrees School in the summer term of 2019. I live in Bodmin with my Husband and two children, one is 15 and attends a mainstream secondary school, the other is 9 and has attended Doubletrees School since age 7; but has been in a specialist setting since age 3.
I’m currently a stay at home parent but have past experience and qualifications in Administration, and Administration in a legal context. I’m highly organised and focussed on getting things right for our children.
I’m passionate about all of our children getting the most out of their time in school. I’m able to challenge decisions professionally around strategies and policies within the school to ensure the best outcomes for our children.
My current roles and responsibilities include website compliance, ensuring that it remains compliant at all times. Personal development including spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC). School Improvement Plan (SIP), ensuring there is clarity of the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school which supports ongoing development and improvement of the school. I’m also trained in Safeguarding and safer recruitment in education.
I have been elected by my colleagues as staff governor for Doubletrees school, a role I am delighted to have. I live just outside of St Austell with my youngest son who is 12, he attends Penrice school. My eldest son moved out around 18 months and will be making me a proud Nannie this year. My partner has a son at Penrice and another son who attends Doubletrees, all which equals a busy life. My hobbies include walking, swimming and the gym, I enjoy being outside and remaining active. My family are the most important thing in my life as well as friends.
I have been working at Doubletrees since September in Post 16 as a HLTA, I also previously worked at the school for about 6 years so I know the school well. I am hoping to finish my education and complete my final teacher’s year soon.
I have always worked in education: mainstream schools supporting learners on an individual basis, personal assistant to young people, managing a children’s Nursery for 3 years, taught in a school specifically to support behaviour and Doubletrees.
Within these roles I have developed an understanding of the importance of individual need, a passion for education and enthusiasm to enhance the experiences our learners have. I am known well for bringing a smile to people’s faces, joy into lessons and a dedication to all learners in the school.
I will embrace my new role and ensure I fulfil it to the best of my abilities.
