This week in the Exploration Pathway.....

Holly Class

Discovering Farming: A Sensory Journey Into Where Our Food Comes From

Holly class have started their food and farming topic this term by exploring different materials, objects and animals that you would find on a farm. We used all our senses to explore the materials and role played with the animals.  We learnt all about the fascinating world of farming, and learnt all about the journey that food and drink takes from the farm to the supermarket, and then in to our homes!  We have covered the process of milk, vegetables and grains so far!

We have been screen printing using vegetables and paint in our art lessons to create our own patterned farming pictures.

Elm Class

In Post 14 we work on building up confidence to participate in our local communities, and visit our local services. Some of Elm class joined a coffee morning with our local St Austell Salvation Army unit. We travelled in the school minibus, and we met some local members of the public. They served us drinks at their charity meeting space, and we shared our chocolate with them. We practised introducing ourselves, social cues and joining in with conversations. We explored the building and would like to go back again soon as we had such a good day!

The remainder of the Elm class went to the local library and enjoyed the peaceful environment for the morning. We looked at the books and enjoyed finding our favourite stories, whilst integrating and practising our social skills and cues with the general public and staff who work there.

Willow Class

Exploring Light and Dark Through Our Senses

In Willow class, we have been exploring light and dark in Science. We studied a range of different light sources and how it can help us with seeing in the darkness.  Learners then explored different lights in a blackout tent and which ones were the brightest. The learners enjoyed going in the blackout tent with the different colours.

We then explored how shadows form and how our senses help us detect light and darkness.

In our classroom, we’ve been using hands-on experiments to investigate how light travels, how it can be blocked, and what happens in the absence of light. Students loved experimenting with torches, opaque and transparent materials, and even creating their own shadow puppets!

Little Orchard

Little Orchard have settled back into the new term really well, enjoying rebound therapy and some PE!

What is Rebound Therapy?
Rebound Therapy involves structured trampoline-based exercises designed for individuals with a wide range of abilities. Guided by trained instructors, our learners use controlled bouncing and movement patterns to improve their physical coordination, balance, and muscle tone.

Why It Works
Rebound Therapy offers numerous benefits, including:

Improved Balance and Coordination – The gentle movement on a trampoline enhances body awareness and stability.
Increased Muscle Tone and Strength – Core and limb muscles are activated in a fun, low-impact way.
Better Posture and Flexibility – Repetitive movements help with posture alignment and joint mobility.
Enhanced Communication and Engagement – For students with additional needs, this therapy can encourage social interaction and communication through shared activities.
Emotional Uplift – The fun, freeing nature of bouncing helps reduce stress and build confidence.

Supporting All Learners
Whether for therapeutic reasons or simply as a way to build confidence and joy in movement, Rebound Therapy has been transformative for many of our learners. We’ve seen improvements not only in physical capabilities but also in students' enthusiasm for physical activity.

As part of our commitment to inclusive education, Rebound Therapy allows every child to experience success and joy through movement.
