This week in the Discovery Pathway.....

This week in Maple class.....

This week, maple enjoyed a wonderful outdoor learning experience in the sensory garden. They explored nature using all five senses—listening carefully to birdsong and rustling leaves, feeling the textures of different plants, noticing the variety of colors and shapes around them, and identifying natural scents such as lavender and mint. The session encouraged curiosity, mindfulness, and appreciation for the natural environment. Through hands-on exploration and discussion, maple developed a deeper understanding of how our senses help us connect with the world around us.

This week in Cherry class.....

Cherry class have enjoyed their first week back at school and have been very busy preparing for our Enterprise project – the Friday Brunch Club, where we will be taking orders and cooking for the staff of Doubletrees School who might want one of our snacks!

Two of our learners have begun their internal work experience where they will spend time working with adults around the school every week this half term; all learners will get a chance to do this over the course of the school year.

To celebrate Bonfire Night, we made chocolate apples. YUM!

On Thursday, Cherry class explored winter herbs with Lisa, as part of their outdoor learning.

This week in Cedar class.....

We have been learning about different celebrations in RE with a focus on birthdays. This week we played some party games - pass the parcel, musical, statues and musical chairs. These activities help us with our Personal Social and Emotional learning too as we had to take turns and manage our emotions when someone else went first or we didn't win. Lots of great learning opportunities and we had so much fun. Everyone joined in!

We use a total communication approach at Doubletrees school. Here you can see some of our learners using a core board during our communication lesson.

We have been learning about shorter and longer in maths. This week we have been learning how to measure using a ruler.

We use sensory massage each day as one of the ways we regulate and calm. Sometimes we form a long line so that everyone benefits from a sensory massage. The children really enjoy this quiet moment after lunch to relax, ready for our afternoon of learning.
