No Mow May 2025!

'No Mow May' is well underway here at Doubletrees. We have left un-mown areas of our outdoor spaces such as grass and hedge areas, offering a wonderful sensory experience for our learners and encouraging diversity in both plants and animals.
No Mow May is a conservation initiative that encourages people to pause mowing their lawns for the month of May to help support pollinators like bees, butterflies, and other insects. The idea is to allow flowering plants (often considered weeds, like dandelions, clover, and violets) to grow, providing critical early-season nectar and pollen sources for pollinators coming out of winter.
Goals of No Mow May:
-
Support biodiversity, especially native pollinators.
-
Promote healthier ecosystems in urban and suburban areas.
-
Raise awareness about the impact of conventional lawn care on wildlife.
Where It Started:
The movement began in the UK and was popularized by the organization Plantlife. It has since gained traction in other countries, including the United States, where some cities have even adjusted local ordinances to support participation.
Little Orchard enjoyed time at Forest School, learning new skills whilst playing and absorbing the peaceful environment.
