This is an exciting opportunity to join our passionate and experienced team at Doubletrees School, supporting and developing high-quality specialist education for pupils with a range of complex learning needs, with a particular focus on autism and associated communication and sensory needs.

Doubletrees School is a creative and ambitious learning community, catering for 112 pupils aged 2–19. Our pupils have multiple, complex and significant needs including significant cognitive delay, by the end of their school career the pupils are often working well below pre-key stage 1 standards in most areas. Progress will typically be in very small steps. We are part of the Special Partnership Trust, working collaboratively to deliver high-quality provision tailored to individual needs.

All of our pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), and all admissions to the school are managed through the Special Educational Needs (SEN) process with Cornwall Local Authority.

We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic SEN Teacher with a strong specialism in autism, who is committed to improving the lives and education of neurodivergent children and young people. You will ideally have experience of working with children with autism and complex communication needs, using evidence-based strategies such as TEACCH, PRICE, Intensive Interaction or Attention Autism. However, we also welcome applications from teachers earlier in their careers who are eager to learn and develop this specialism.

This is a genuine opportunity for a committed practitioner to grow their teaching and leadership potential in a nurturing and specialist school environment.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has proven experience or strong interest in working with children with autism and complex SEND, particularly those with significant communication and sensory needs.
  • Understands the importance of early intervention, emotional regulation, and personalised learning pathways.
  • Can plan and deliver engaging, sensory-rich, individualised learning experiences for pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Is a proactive, reflective and resilient team player, eager to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Has knowledge of EYFS or KS1 curriculum and/or a sensory-based curriculum approaches.
  • Possesses or is willing to develop skills in alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) systems, such as Makaton and or  high or low tech communication aids.

We offer:

  • A supportive and highly skilled teaching team dedicated to inclusive, pupil-centred practice.
  • A comprehensive induction and ongoing high-quality professional development in SEND and autism-specific strategies.
  • Opportunities to develop your career within a progressive and collaborative Trust.
  • The chance to make a real impact on the lives of children and young people with some of the most complex needs.

Experience in specialist SEN practise is advantageous. We are particularly interested in hearing from teachers who have a deep passion for SEN and autism education.

Doubletrees School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to enhanced DBS checks, satisfactory references and online background checks in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education.
